Mr. Edison's art. . .

Recently I came across some oversized, old-fashioned, steampunk-style lightbulbs.

Creepy doll heads. . .

The "Instagram" app on my iPhone

turned these sweet vintage dolls into

"   c  r  e  e  p  y     d  o  l  l     h  e  a  d  s   "

which two of my dear friends

for some reason have a fascination with.

Hmm. . . . . . .

Barn sale treasure. . .

I found this

be a u t y

behind a shed

while attending a barn sale in Draper.

Yup, it was for sale.

Nope, I didn't bring it home.

(It wouldn't fit in the garage, a.k.a. the antique "storage room.")

Imagine that. . . the car won't fit in the garage!

I went to my neighbor's to drop off a trinket

when I was awestruck by her rosebush

with its blooms

Life well spent. . .

"No hour of life is wasted that is spent in the saddle."

                                                                                                          ~ Winston Churchill

This is my daughter's sweet quarter horse mare, QT.

She came out of the saddle yesterday, head first - ouch!

She'll be back up there again soon, though, since she's not one to

                                                                                                                waste away life. . . .

P h o t o - a - d a y starts today!

While spending most of the-day-after-flea.o.logy in bed yesterday (it's a ritual of recovery), an i*d*e*a came to me. . . .

My dear friend and fellow flea.o.logist Paula blogs every day.  I don't know how she does it, but she does.

And. . .

. . . my good bud from college, Paul, posts an iPhone picture a day on Facebook (www.iphoneonceaday.com).  He's a big-time-famous-photographer now and rubs elbows with rock stars and movie stars and makes big money making photos.  (And to think, one time he was totally jealous of one of my photos. . . . )

So -- I put their ideas together and * voila * -- today begins the

                    "s E c o N d   h a N d   s T u F t"  p h o t o - a - d a y

                                                                                                blog posts!

New flea.o.logy dealer Sandra brought

a*m*a*z*i*n*g  lamps

to our sale on Saturday. . . .

See you tomorrow!

my daughter's mother's mother. . . . . . .

A long long time ago, I spent a lot - and I mean a LOT - of time pursuing my genealogy.  It all began with a marriage record:

Mariah Skinner Powell

Bernard Oscar Hitchcock

married

Mariah Skinner Powell

18 December 1862

in Clark County, Ohio.

The day I found that certificate I was hooked.  I spent every free evening that I could at the Family History Library in downtown Salt Lake City.  My car was on auto-pilot.  My brain was constantly thinking of what to research next.  What joy!

Then --- I met Fred.  We got married.  We still worked on the genealogy, but we did other things too.  Like get pregnant.  And then Michael came along.  And the genealogy took a back seat.  It's still sitting there.  But it's never gotten out of my blood.  It never will.  And someday it will get back in the front seat.  Probably the day Sarah goes to college. . . . . . . . .

In  the meantime, I've been wanting to create a family tree, but a little different than your standard pedigree chart.  I'm going to put it up in my living room eventually.  It'll look a little like what follows, although this one is a bit scaled back.  For my blog, I'm celebrating the beautiful women I'm descended from through my sweet mom . . .

Sarah Caitlin
1997
Utah

Catherine Dorothy
1958
Michigan

Joan Lois
1932
Illinois

Dorothy Alma
1901 - 1997
Chicago

Martha Wilhelmina
1876 - 1956
Chicago

Caroline
1842 - 1881
New York

and the heart of my daughter shall turn to my mother,

                                                                                                                      and to her mother,

                                                                                                                                         and so on ~

Just one week 'til the flea. . .

The count is on.

Just under a week until the flea.       flea.o.logy that is. . . .

It's our mid-summer flea, next Saturday, July 14th.

(Isn't that Bastille Day?  In France, that is.)

It's time to get serious about getting ready.  Time to get all the goodies I've been collecting gathered, cleaned up, priced and packed up.  It's gonna take a while.  There's a LOT.

It's just a bit exciting, to see it all come together for this little flea that's
become such a wonderful thing for so many. . . .

Here's just a few things I'm getting ready for the flea. . .

Got Flea Market Style? Pick one up for under the cover price!

(There's lots more.  I promise.)

See you next week @
